Folkestone Art Gallery – Folkestone

A space for all creative endeavours. The building offers spatial conditions that aid and encourage, especially the artists presenting works, to interpret and react to the spaces.

The gallery space is unique in its connection between two street levels of Folkestone Harbours Creative Quarter. The lower level creates a dialogue with Tontine Street, whilst the upper level with The Old High Street. The stair connection between the two levels of the gallery allows for the user to arrive and exit at two separate street levels, with the gallery acting as a physical connection through Folkestone’s Creative Quarter.

The gallery accommodates many possibilities in function from art installations to space for digital and physical productions. Two additional private floors above house the working space for Progress Agency. The Foundry gallery and Progress Agency are connected, allowing for interaction between the diverse set of spaces they share, introducing a unique creative space.

Although The Foundry and Progress do different things, The Foundry hosts and presents works, whilst Progress makes work, they are both dedicated to experimenting in the field of art, design, and community. The Foundry and Progress aim to take an active role in presenting and celebrating its immediate context.
